Educating businesses on software theft with our own whodunit
Disciplines—
digital + social
Challenge—
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) is committed to ridding the world of illegal software. It’s a big challenge, made more difficult by the general apathy towards the problem from many in business. The task for Banner was to engage the audience with educational information they would understand and remember.
Solution—
We created Software Cluedo, an online game that enabled business and IT people to try to discover who in a fictional company was putting the business at risk through illegal software use. The game took them through a number of rooms, each with clues about the culprit and educational information about the issue.
We offered a suite of legal software as a prize for the overall winner (and we changed the game each time to avoid anyone cheating). Software Cluedo was picked up on a number of blogs and generated over 4,000 unique visitors in its first weeks online, 95% of whom were new to the BSA.
