Cool Campaigns Found Down the Back of the Digital Couch #5

This week, we look at the industry from the perspective of the abnormal. So put on your ‘Dali’ glasses and see what happens when a dog gets an agency, a foot meets a place where there is no sunshine, a celebrity loses his friends and an AD-vocate loses faith.

Adoption can be tough

–especially when you are just a little pooch. So, why not ADVERTISE!? This is a great campaign from TV agency Thinkbox. Every home deserves a Harvey. Why not join him on Facebook too?

Banner’s big day out in Brighton

A number of years ago, we had a company off-site featuring a treasure hunt as the primary challenge for the day. This involved teams of Bannerites zooming around London in black cabs looking for the answers to a series of cryptic clues.

Whilst it was competitive and fun, that approach seems antiquated by today’s standards. For an agency whose raison d’être is to understand and use technology better than any other agency, scribbling the answers onto bits of paper wasn’t really a good way of tracking progress or educating our team on new technologies.

Cool Campaigns Found Down the Back of the Digital Couch #4

This week I revisit some renditions of earlier posts, reveal that I’m a bit of a sci-fi fanboy, look at how splashing some paint on the walls and a handful of cameras can create some engaging campaign ideas, and also at what happens when you distract UK drivers with monster cleavage. Enjoy.

Last week, we looked at herding cats in IKEA. Not strictly a campaign, but this video is a great parody of the original.

Next, an homage to Halo. As some of you may know, Bungie Studios launched the new Halo Reach game for the X-Box console at midnight on Tuesday with excited fans queuing for over 2 days to get their hands on a copy.

So, games publisher, Popcap, found a goldmine in the garden. Plants vs. Zombies, which started as a PC game has become something more. Diversifying its platform base and racking up huge support in App Stores, users can ‘try before they buy’ with some great online executions.

What do you do when your company causes the world’s most media-tracked natural disaster? Isn’t it obvious? You blow 3.5 million dollars on Google ads, that’s what…

How do you know when viral dancing (a ‘la flashmob style) is finally dead? When companies have to resort to the cuteness of children to make them work; that’s when. Followers, be ashamed…

Google Instant’s Impact on Search Marketing

By now you’ve probably heard of or even tried out Google’s latest search innovation — Google Instant. The new feature leverages Google’s deep search insights and data crunching abilities to try predict what users are searching for and serve results even before they’ve finished writing. As users are typing their query Google is constantly refreshing the website with predicted results.

While it has just been rolled out in the UK and US to users logged into Google this week, and so empirical data is scarce, there are at least two early indications to how this will impact search marketing:

Cool Campaigns Found Down the Back of the Digital Couch #2

Every week, Banner brings you more cool campaigns/ideas/articles found whilst sniffing round the interweb.

  • Don’t Shoot the Bear! – YouTube made interesting by Tipp-Ex. Great campaign for driving user input. Be creative with your ideas. Try: fishes, dances, rap, tickles, picks up, shoots and eats to get you going… (It will all make sense when you are there, trust me.)
  • Another YouTube creation, this time with Sly and some friends
  • If you missed the Apple special announcement yesterday, then you won’t want to miss this. Finally, a place where Apple “fanboys” can go and communicate with the like-minded.

Intel and McAfee — the worst security deal in history?

It’s no longer breaking news Intel are buying McAfee and although the subject has been thoroughly covered in the tech press in recent days, I’ve been giving the subject some thought and find myself a little surprised at the level of consternation — even outrage — expressed by some commentators (or their readers) on the subject.

What is it about this deal that seems to have wound people up? Here are my thoughts.
